A section that straddles the crus of both Fleurie and Morgon, rich in sandy granitic soil. The estate wines from these appellations are uniquely different even though all the vines are in the same area. The complexity found in the vineyard is demonstrated through these different cuvees.

The fruit is manually harvested and sorted. In the cellar vinification is cold carbonic and semi carbonic maceration (approximately 30% juice) at 10-12 degrees with natural yeasts in large concrete vats. Analysis was done every year, the soils were teeming with life and now all farming at Bertrand is Biodynamic.

2024 is best expressed in Yann’s words
You know what they say : tradition obliges ! But rest assured, even if Météo-France seems to want to rewrite history, this vintage evokes a beautiful nostalgia for my first years of winemaking, with the white hair that is added to my experience (and no, it is not stress, it is wisdom!). To borrow the phrase usually reserved for Musigny, this is as close as Garnacha gets to an iron fist in a velvet glove. - Alimentaria, Importer.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0026/6754/4640/files/Winona-Wine-Comando-G-2021-Las-Umbrias-Garnacha-Comando-G-Wine.png?v=1775651230
clonakilla-2023-shiraz-viognier
Clonakilla - 2023 Shiraz Viognier

There is no doubt vintage 2023 gave us some anxious moments. The spring was so wet and cool that the vines were very reluctant to emerge from their winter sleep. When they did emerge, the shoots grew so slowly that I wondered whether the grapes would ever ripen. Thankfully, the summer did finally arrive, and the vines embarked on the long but determined journey of ripening grapes through the warm late summer and mild but generally sunny autumn. We ended up picking in mid-April, with the fruit exactly ripe and in excellent condition. You really have to smell this wine to believe the intensity and purity of fruit we received in the 2023 Shiraz Viognier. As Clonakilla SV goes, this vintage strikes me as archetypal, style-defining, the essence of cool-climate Shiraz. Previously a powerful wine region with 20,000 hectares planted on the complex slopes of the mountain, it had been drastically reduced to 3,000 hectares. Most of the vineyards were removed and replanted on flat ground, where it is easier for machine use but unfortunately compromised the grape quality. The Coteau de Cevins was replanted in 1998 with the original, high quality vines of Persan and Mondeuse noire (red) as well as Altesse, Roussanne, Mondeuse blanche, Malvoisie and Jacquère (white). The slope reaches 60% of inclination, and the vines are planted on terraces of very old, complex mica-schists, loam and sand. With 8,000 vines planted per hectare and 25 hectolitres per hectare produced, it is the Grand Cru hill of Savoie! Out of this magnificent hill, three wines are produced, Quartz, Schiste and Améthyste. The first real crop was harvested in 2002, then in 2005, Brice Omont was appointed wine grower and director of Domaine des Ardoisières, continuing the work Michel Grisard had begun. In addition to the Coteau de Cevins, Brice Omont rented a vineyard on the Coteau de St Pierre de Soucy in 2008 in order to produce wines from clay and limestone soils and schist. The two Cuvée ARGILE white and Red were born. Then in order to expand, in 2015 Brice Omont began renting another vineyard of high quality Jacquère to produce SILICE, a highly addictive cuvée of white wine. The bouquet has a richness that jumps out at you with concentrated red and black fruits, red peppers and delicate liquorice notes. Moreau’s village Chablis comes chiefly from 20- to 30-year-old vineyards in Préhy and Courgis, both south of Chablis. Then, there are parcels in Chablis and Chichée (under the Premier Cru vines of Vaugiraut/Vosgros). All up, the Domaine works with 30 parcels scattered across the appellation, representing a variety of soil structures and exposures. All the fruit from the younger vines is sold off in bulk, lifting the general standard.

The fruit was pressed gently over four hours and fermented with natural yeasts (still a rarity in Chablis). It was raised mainly in the tank, and the maturation was unhurried. The wine then spent 20 months on lees, considerably longer than most Chablis of this level. These traditional methods—along with hand-harvesting, the quality of the terroir, the low yields and the ripeness—help explain the mouthcoating texture, salty depths and overall quality.

“Derived from three different locations, Moreau-Naudet’s 2023 Chablis Village opens in the glass to reveal aromas of grapefruit zest, acacia and flint. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, tangy and textural, concluding with a precise, delicately sapid finish.” 88-90 points, Kristaps Karklins, The Wine Advocate

“A much larger nose, with energetic agrume fruit and even an added zestiness. A wine which immediately makes one sit up and focus. Refined and complex with graphite, sweet cassis, cedar spice, violet and rose, air reveals infinite nuance and detail and a briny, nori like complexity. The palate is flooded with wave upon wave of dark Cabernet fruit, braced by a strict but not overbearing tannic structure and refreshing acid, finishing with sweet violet and cassis, and a wave of perfume. The most refined of the Cabernet cuvées, but also the most concentrated and finally balanced. The best vintage yet for us from this wonderful site and vintage and a wine that displays my most prized characteristics - effortless complexity and power without weight. These blocks have always been treated separately to enable us to fine tune viticulture and winemaking in the thought of releasing some single block wines in the future. Well that time has come. Our Top Paddock vineyard was originally planted to 100 per cent Pinot Noir. In 2003, I decided to graft one block over to the Bernard clones of Chardonnay (95, 96, 277). I selected the best clones and the most balanced vines for cuttings. The block I selected was Easterly facing on the crest of the hill. I was always fascinated how Chardonnay on this block would go. The vineyard is 50 metres higher in altitude than the existing Chardonnay block.

Chardonnay from the Top Paddock has always had a different growth structure than our normal Chardonnay blocks. Positioned on top of the hill has meant the vines have had to work harder as the soils are poorer. Crop levels are never an issue with this block, with natural crop levels at one tone per acre. Minimal shoot thinning and positioning occurs in Spring. After this, we let the vines sort itself out.

In the winery, we treat this wine as we would normally treat all our Chardonnay.. The Chardonnay is picked in the early morning, and refrigerated down to 2⁰C for 12 hours. Then it is gentle destemmed, not crushed and pressed into tank. The juice is left to settle clear for 7 days with no enzyme or acid addition. The wine is then fermented till dryness using cultered and natural yeasts. The wine remains in cask for 12 months with occasional battonage. The wine is not filtered, not fined, or stabilized before bottling. - Franco D'Anna, Winemaker.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0026/6754/4640/files/Winona-Wine-Hoddles-Creek-Estate-2024-1er-Yarra-Valley-Chardonnay-Hoddles-Creek-Wine.png?v=1779930842
champagne-chavost-nv-blanc-dassemblage-brut-nature
Champagne Chavost - NV Blanc d'Assemblage Brut Nature

The Blanc d’Assemblage is a stunning intro to Fabian's winemaking style.
