And, with good reason. 'Staring at the Sun' is what you might call the flagship wine (for want of a better term), it was the first wine released (2015) under Momento Mori Wines \u0026amp; has gained somewhat of a cult following in Australia \u0026amp; abroad.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI started making wine on a quest to make wines precisely like this one. And now after having 9 years to refine \u0026amp; hone this wine it is stylistically shining! The blend is relatively the same each year \u0026amp; includes Fiano, Vermentino and Moscato Giallo, although amounts are adjusted to suit the vintage. The 2022 is comprised of 45% Vermentino, 45% Fiano \u0026amp; 10% Moscato Giallo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll are fermented separately in stainless for varying time on skins. Each variety is then pressed back to stainless \u0026amp; left to rest on gross lees over the winter (also in stainless) before gravity racking, assembling the final blend \u0026amp; then bottling in early summer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 2022 rendition of this cuvée’ is along the same lines as the 2021. The wine sits at 12% ALC \u0026amp; is medium bodied with great texture. It is pure, clean \u0026amp; has great tension\/energy without lacking any of its usual character or charm. Fiano, Moscato Giallo and Nero d'Avola are some of the heavy hitters in the region. Though the entirety of the Momento Mori portfolio has attained cult status, the Fistful of Flowers has a particular renown that echoes some cult-ish imports – Cantina Giardino, Radikon, Birbo, to name a few. This release is a stunner. Moscato Giallo and Vermentino grown by the Chalmers family on the slopes of Mt Camel in Heathcote, Victoria. Huge florals on the nose, a whirlwind of marigold, pear blossoms, magnolia, cherry tree. The palate is washed with stone fruit, elderflower, musk, cut plums. Cool, slatey, steely, salty. Small ferment, wild yeast, no new oak, no mechanical pumps, no fining, no filtration, no additions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDane calls this his \"wine for the people\".
