Nicole had a small parcel herself, planted in 1997 to Shiraz and Cab Sav, but they were keen to look at other varietals out there that would cope better with the dry conditions. Nowdays, inspired by a trip to Sicily, the have grafted and harvest more obscure varietals like Nero D'Avola, Zibbibo and Crystal. Through Brash Higgins they are looking to represent the essence of McLaren Vale’s sun and soil, the elusive characters of the fruit, and the whims of their own restless muse.

100% Cab Franc grown along a high ridge of an ancient sand dune and made at Brash HQ. Vintage 2023 provided top growing conditions with an even season punctuated by small berry set. Yields were quite good for this vineyard and we made 380 cases. The idea for this FRNC was to focus on the aromatics and vibrancy of the fruit. A translucent violet in colour. The nose is lifted, aromatic, brooding with jalapeno and alpine herbs. There is roasted bell pepper, violets, ashes, rose petals, mulberry on the palate. Balanced and deep, the wine has a luscious, pure mouth feel and a long smooth finish with papery tannins. - Brad Hickey, Winemaker.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0026/6754/4640/files/Winona-Wine-Brash-Higgins-2023-FRNC-Sands-Vineyards-Brash-Higgins-Wine.png?v=1779849644
brash-higgins-2024-chn
Brash Higgins - 2024 CHN

Our ninth single vineyard Chenin Blanc at Brash Higgins from Willamba Hill. A relatively steep, south facing 34 year old vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub region of McLaren Vale, it is overlaid with the deep white beach sands distinctive to Blewitt Springs. We attempt to capture the salinity and marine fossil notes from the sandy, coastal soils, thus transporting you to the oceanside with each whiff and taste. Blewitt Springs geology begins some 50 million years ago at the mouth of what is now Maslin Beach (Australia’s first unclad beach) and runs some 30km Eastward up to the foothills of the Adelaide Hills.
